The dominance of non-indigenous species in the catch composition of small-scale fisheries: A case study from the Kaş–Kekova Special Environmental Protection Area, Türkiye, Eastern Mediterranean

This study aimed to determine the catch composition and compare per unit effort (CPUE) of indigenous non-indigenous species in longline trammel net fisheries Mediterranean coasts Türkiye. The data were collected weekly from May 2020 September 2021 by commercial fishing vessels ( n = 62 days for nets, 75 longlines). results indicated that more than 90% consisted fishery Pterois miles (Bennett, 1828), Siganus rivulatus Forsskål et Niebuhr, 1775, luridus (Rüppell, 1829), Scarus ghobban Forsskål, 1775 most commonly caught species. Although common longlines compared with Lagocephalus sceleratus (Gmelin, 1789) suezensis Clark Gohar, 1953 represented relatively high ratios. also revealed CPUE exhibited seasonal differences. some within this have a market value, other highly invasive do not. Therefore, it is critically important develop effective management tools control bio-invasion. provides first comprehensive research utilizing basic long-term surveys small-scale on outcomes can provide guidance decision-makers.
